PHOENIX - The copper dome at the State Capitol is bright and shiny thanks to a replacement project that was completed just in time to welcome in 2022. The project took two and a half months to complete and included the removal of the existing copper, repairs to the roof structure underneath and installation of 2,500 lbs of copper sheets.
The previous copper on the dome was installed in 2011 after hail severely damaged the copper on the dome in 2010. The copper didn’t age well due to the sealing process and maintenance over the years, which led to the dome looking corroded and dull. A history of Arizona’s Capitol can be found here.
The copper used for this project was purchased from Western States, an Arizona company.
A video wrap-up of the project can be viewed here.
