Governor Hobbs delivered her first State of the State address last Monday, January 9th officially kicking off the 2023 Legislative Session!

She started off by extending an invitation to work together to change the future for our families and communities “by lowering costs, investing in public education, securing our water future, tackling the affordable housing crisis and other real issues that are holding back too many.”

Governor Hobbs called out the business community, parents, students, educators, tribal governments & nations and assured them their voices would be heard and respected. She stated she would work hand in hand with these communities to tackle issues facing them.

Governor Hobbs then listed issues facing so many Arizonans. She mentioned the many cutting-edge companies moving to Arizona, but our rural communities are being left behind because they don’t have the infrastructure they need like high-speed internet. Companies have record job openings, but far too many Arizona residents can’t afford rapidly increasing rents or have been priced out of buying a home. We have some of the best K-12 schools in the country – but the state has long failed to live up to its obligation to adequately invest fairly in public education. Arizona has stunning landscapes and unrivaled natural beauty. However, we must do more to protect our forests and watersheds from the devastating effects of fire and drought.

She then listed out her top priorities to build an Arizona for everyone:

  1. Education
  2. Affordable Housing
  3. Immigration
  4. Women’s Rights
  5. Securing our Water Future
