Skills-based hiring at the State of Arizona presents new opportunities

The State of Arizona will host a job fair on March 20 with a renewed focus on opportunities for those who have gained skills through military service, community college, training programs, partial college completion or on-the-job experience.
Applicants can participate in on-the-spot interviews and potentially walk away with job offers from one of more than 30 state agencies. The free event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 20 at Wesley Bolin Plaza on the Capitol Mall, 1700 W. Washington St. in Phoenix.
Under the theme “Continue to Serve,” the event will welcome veterans, active military and spouses from 10 a.m. to noon. From noon to 2 p.m., all prospective employees for state jobs are welcome.
Arizona is a leader in focusing on the skills required to successfully hold positions with the state, including technical training, community college, certificate programs or on-the-job training completed by candidates. Arizona hiring managers recognize that postsecondary education is immensely valuable and helps individuals develop important skills, but it is not the only way potential employees can build the skills necessary to be successful public servants. Within the State of Arizona, the majority of job descriptions are already open to people without degrees.
Hundreds of roles are currently open across the state, including:
- Business operations specialist, Department of Economic Security
- Paralegal, Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions
- Shooting rangemaster, Game and Fish
- Community development and revitalization program specialist, Department of Housing
- Chief procurement officer, Department of Administration
- Special agent, Department of Gaming
- Policy analyst, Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System
- IT project manager, Department of Revenue
- Roadside motorist assistant, Department of Public Safety
- Division office administrator, Attorney General
- Fire prevention lead, Department of Forestry and Fire Management
- Building maintenance specialist, Department of Juvenile Corrections
- Museum registrar, Historical Society
- Psychology associate, Department of Health Services
This free event will offer resume review, interviewing tips and assistance searching for state jobs; interviews and some job offers will be made on the spot.
